Roman menu revealed
Saturday night, 30 May 2010, will be a proper Roman nite at Gray's Court.
There will be the auction, including a slave auction, or course!
Feel free to dress for the occasion - there may be a toga party, gladiator fights, but probably no orgy.
The menu features real Roman food including:- - Army bread (Traditional style roman flatbread)
- Lucanian sausages, (Strong, spiced, made with the lost herb of rue)
- Meat balls (Pork and apple, flavoured with garrum, "fish sauce" and possum "raisin wine")
- Stuffed dates, (pine nuts, almonds, walnuts tossed in honey and pepper sauce)
- A selection of pickled veg.
- Honey Roast Dormouse (marinated in black pepper, caraway, cumin, bay leaves, dates, honey and vinegar wine) ... oh, all right... it's really chicken!
- Honeyed, pine nut wine
The food will be served as canapés on Saturday night as well as available throughout the weekend of York Roman Festival on the menu.
